What to do in the CU: Upcoming events around Champaign-Urbana

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — There’s always something to do in Champaign-Urbana, and a few events are coming to town these next few weeks that will be hard to catch a second time around!

On January 9, the Harlem Globetrotters 100 Year Tour will make its stop in Champaign by visiting the State Farm Center at 7 p.m.! With gravity-defying dunks to game-changing tricks, experience the team that redefined fun basketball. Tickets are still available, and can be purchased here.

Yellow & Co. will be hosting a performance from The Voice contestant Madison Hughes for an unforgettable night of songs and stories on January 9. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m., and the show will begin at 7. Tickets purchased in advance are $25, and $30 at the door.

On January 10, head to downtown Urbana for Postmark Urbana! The event, headquartered at Elm City Roastery, will be focused on journal making with vision board designing activities with materials sourced from The Idea Store. While there, you can stop by 40 North table for your PostMark map, and bring puzzles for the puzzle exchange to stock up with fun activities for the cold winter months.

From January 16-17, the I Hotel & Illinois Conference Center at 1900 South First Street will host the Custom Home and Interior Showcase. Described as “not your typical home show”, the event will focus on local, custom craftsmen and businesses. With Amish and Mennonite furniture and cabinet builders to custom tile and countertop designers and installers, the event will have what you need to make your home more unique and comfortable than you can imagine. The first day will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the second day being 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On January 18, head to the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts at 4 p.m. for the 40th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Service of Celebration! The event is hosted by the Cities of Champaign and Urbana, along with the Village of Rantoul, Parkland College, and the University of Illinois to host a countywide celebration honoring the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Members of the community will be honored with prestigious awards during the ceremony, recognizing their work to uphold the principles and ideals of Dr. King.
