Urbana police investigate shooting on Eads Street and BTW STEM Academy; no injuries reported

URBANA, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Urbana police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the 1400 block of Eads Street on Tuesday morning.

Officers were dispatched around 9:47 a.m. after multiple calls reported shots fired in the area. Authorities from the Champaign Police Department and University of Illinois Police Department also responded to assist.

No individuals were struck by gunfire, but multiple structures were impacted, including nearby townhouses at Hamilton on the Park and Booker T. Washington STEM Academy. As a precaution, the school was placed on lockdown to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Police reported that witnesses saw a dark-colored SUV leave the area at a high rate of speed. Preliminary information, including video surveillance, indicates that three unidentified individuals exited the vehicle before the shots were fired and returned afterward.

Authorities are asking anyone in the area at the time who may have surveillance footage or other information to contact the Urbana Police Department at 217-384-2320. Crime Stoppers offers rewards of up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest in felony firearm cases. The investigation remains ongoing, and police plan to release additional updates as they become available.
