CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The City of Urbana will activate its sidewalk snow and ice removal requirement beginning at 11 a.m. Monday, January 26, following a winter storm that left ice and at least two inches of snow on sidewalks across the community.

The requirement applies to properties located in the Downtown, University, and South Philo Road snow removal districts, where adjacent property owners are required by ordinance to clear public sidewalks within 24 hours of the declaration. Sidewalks must be cleared by 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, to ensure safe pedestrian travel. Sidewalks that remain uncleared may be cleared by the city at the property owner’s expense, with additional fines and administrative fees assessed.
