CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — In the late hours of Saturday leading into Sunday, Champaign Police were dispatched following multiple reports of a shooting with injuries.
Officers arrived on scene to the 2500 block of West Springfield Avenue and found a 35-year-old male victim from Urbana unconscious and not breathing with multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers initiated lifesaving measures until the victim could be transported to an area hospital. Unfortunately, his injuries were too severe and he passed away shortly after.
An initial investigation found that the man was in a parking lot when two subjects approached him and fired multiple shots. The victim was struck several times, and the subjects fled the area. The vehicle used to flee was located in the 2000 block of Moreland Boulevard. During the investigation, 32-year-old Tyson Moore of Champaign and 37-year-old Deandre Newbill of Urbana were located and arrested. Two firearms were located during the investigation. Both men face initial charges of first-degree murder.
Even as arrests have been made, the investigation remains ongoing. Officers continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may be of investigative assistance. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
