FARMER CITY (Chambana Today) — The Mischievous Monkeys, a distinctive retail shop located at 226 South Main Street in Farmer City, will celebrate its fifth anniversary on March 28 with an open house filled with surprises for longtime customers and newcomers alike.

The store is famous for its mascot, Marcus the chimpanzee, who welcomes visitors from his bench outside the shop. Owner Robert Allen emphasized the importance of building relationships within the local business community. “In retail today, it isn’t just about selling things; it is about the shopping area of your town and to build trust with your customers and other business owners,” Allen said.

The celebration runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., featuring refreshments throughout the day. Ladies are encouraged to wear fascinator hats for photos with Marcus, who will be dressed specially for the occasion. Visitors can also admire Allen’s talents as a decorator and designer showcased in the store.

Since opening in 2021, The Mischievous Monkeys has expanded its offerings to include vintage, antique, and home décor items, boutique clothing and jewelry, gourmet food, and a floral design shop added in 2023. The boutique also carries handmade, personalized gifts and unique outdoor décor.
