URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) — Fire crews responded late Sunday night to their second structure fire of the day, this time battling a heavily involved garage fire on Hill Street.

According to the Urbana Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched at approximately 10:16 p.m. to 1204 Hill St. after reports of a structure fire. Engine 253, stationed on Bradley Avenue, arrived within three minutes to find a detached garage fully involved, with flames visible and threatening nearby buildings.

Firefighters quickly deployed multiple hose lines to attack the fire and protect surrounding structures. Crews established a sustained water supply, used power saws to gain access to the building and safely secured utilities to prevent further hazards.

Thanks to the rapid response, the fire was brought under control within 15 minutes of arrival. Approximately 25 personnel remained on scene for about 90 minutes conducting overhaul operations to extinguish hot spots and ensure the fire did not rekindle.

No injuries were reported among firefighters. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the department’s investigation team.
