URBANA, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The Champaign Movie Makers’ 2026 48-Hour Film Competition screening will take place this weekend, spotlighting some of the area’s emerging and established filmmaking talent.
The screening is scheduled for Sunday, January 25, at 3 p.m. at the Savoy Arthouse, located inside Savoy 16 at 232 West Burwash Avenue in Savoy. The event is being held as part of the Chambana Film Society’s Savoy Arthouse series.
The short films were created during the competition held last weekend, running from 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18. At the start of the competition, filmmakers gathered in person at Lincoln Square Mall to receive a prompt, which included a required physical item. Teams then had 48 hours to write, produce, and edit a completed short film based on that prompt.
Independent judges will evaluate the films during the screening and select a winner based on how effectively each team incorporated its assigned prompt. Organizers said the competition continues to be a showcase of creativity, collaboration, and storytelling under tight deadlines.
The screening is open to the public and offers audiences a chance to see locally made films created in just one weekend.
