One juvenile deceased following Saturday’s shooting near Marketplace Mall

CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — On Saturday, Champaign Police responded to a fight in the parking lot at the Market Place Shopping Center near Dick’s House of Sport Store at around 6:14 p.m.

At least one individual discharged a firearm during the fight, resulting in a 16-year-old victim being struck. Officers immediately administered medical assistance with help from the Champaign Fire Department until the victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim succumbed to injuries, and was pronounced deceased at 11:44 p.m.

No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.

The Champaign Police Department is pursuing every lead and seeking assistance from the community for any information or video footage regarding the incident. Residents are reminded that information submitted to Crime Stoppers is completely anonymous. Crime Stoppers will pay cash rewards of $5,000 for tips that lead to an arrest in any homicide case, $2,500 for tips leading to an arrest in a felony crime involving a firearm, and up to $1,000 for tips leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for any other crime.
