DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) — On October 17, at approximately 3:34 p.m., Danville Police responded to a traffic accident involving a motorcycle and a vehicle at the intersection of Gilbert Street and North Street. Upon arrival, officers found a 46-year-old Danville man with severe injuries after striking a Hyundai Sonata.

Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene and provided aid to the motorcyclist, who was later transported to OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Danville Police immediately began investigating the crash and were later assisted by the Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Team. Preliminary findings suggest that the motorcyclist, traveling southbound on Gilbert Street, failed to stop at the red light at the intersection of Gilbert Street and North Street. The motorcycle then collided with the driver-side door of a Hyundai Sonata, which was traveling eastbound on North Street.

The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time, pending notification by the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office. No other injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Danville Police are continuing to investigate the crash, and further details will be provided as they become available. At this time, no additional information has been released.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Danville Police Department at (217) 431-2250 or Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at (217) 446-TIPS.
