CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — This summer, Shelly and Rob, lifelong Champaign residents, commemorated their love story in the most meaningful setting: Robeson Elementary School, where their relationship began decades ago.

Their story started on Southmoor Drive, when both attended Robeson Elementary. Rob was best friends with Shelly’s brother in kindergarten, and their families lived just two blocks apart. Though their paths crossed year after year—through neighborhood events and social media—the timing wasn’t right until six years ago, when a first date sparked a connection that would last a lifetime.

When it came time to say “I do,” the couple chose to return to the site where it all began. In a heartfelt moment, Shelly’s daughter officiated the ceremony on Robeson’s playground, with family and friends gathered among the swings and schoolyard where memories were first made. Robeson Elementary’s Facebook page shared, “Congratulations to Shelly and Rob! Thank you for always being a part of the Robeson family.”
