URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) — As the challenge of finding citizens to run for public office continues to grow, the League of Women Voters of Champaign County (LWVCC) is stepping up to encourage more participation in local government. The League will host a virtual program titled “Is Now the Time For You to Run for Public Office?” on Wednesday, February 25, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. via Zoom.

This program will feature three local women who have made the decision to run for office and now hold elected positions in the community. The featured speakers are:

  • Regina Crider, Rantoul Village Board Member, District 2
  • Jenny Locke, Champaign County Board Chair, District 9
  • Vanna Pianfetti, Champaign City Council Member, District 5

The event aims to shed light on the process of running for office and share the personal stories of these women’s journeys into public service. Peggy Patten, a former member of the Urbana School Board and the program moderator, believes the discussion will help inspire more local citizens to get involved. “Public service is a rewarding way to make a difference, and it’s crucial that we have diverse voices in our local government,” Patten said.

The program is free and open to the public, and participants will have the opportunity to ask questions. All LWVCC Keeping it Local programs are recorded and available for viewing on the League’s website, www.lwvchampaigncounty.org.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization dedicated to promoting informed and active participation in government. With more than 100 years of experience, the League continues its mission of increasing voter engagement and advocating for public policy through education and advocacy.
