URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) — A group of local pet businesses has come together to spread Easter cheer to shelter animals through a community-wide donation drive, with a goal of providing 300 Easter baskets to pets awaiting adoption.

The project began as a small idea from the boarding director at The Fur Mama: Your Pet’s Second-Best Friend and quickly grew into a larger collaboration with Tootsies Barkery LLC and Ooh La La Pet Spa LLC.

Organizers say the baskets will support animals at local shelters, including Champaign County Humane Society and the Champaign County Animal Control Shelter.

  • Champaign County Animal Control: 21 dogs, 100 cats

  • Champaign County Humane Society: 44 dogs, 84 cats, 8 rabbits

Community members are encouraged to sponsor a basket to help reach the goal.

  • $30 sponsors a dog basket

  • $25 sponsors a cat or rabbit basket

  • Each basket includes toys, treats, and handmade blankets

Organizers note that all treats must be packaged and made with simple ingredients to ensure animal safety.

In addition to donations, the group is offering a fun Easter-themed fundraiser to boost support.

  • “Egg Your Friends” allows participants to surprise friends or neighbors with decorated yards

  • $20 for one dozen eggs, $35 for two dozen

  • Optional jumbo egg add-on available for $5

The initiative not only provides enrichment items for animals but also raises awareness about pets waiting for adoption in the community.

Residents interested in contributing can donate or sponsor a basket online: Venmo | Chambana Paws Community Fund. To follow the fundraiser, visit The Fur Mama: Your Pre’s Second Best Friend’s page.

Organizers say every basket donated brings comfort—and a little holiday joy—to animals still waiting for their forever homes.
