CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The Illinois men’s basketball team faces a significant test as senior guard Kylan Boswell will be sidelined for at least a month following a fractured right hand sustained during practice. Boswell, the team’s second-leading scorer and defensive leader, is expected to miss upcoming road games against Purdue, Nebraska, and Michigan State.

Boswell averages 14.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, and his defensive versatility allows Illinois to match him against both opposing guards and frontcourt players. Replacing his contributions will require adjustments from multiple players rather than a one-for-one replacement.

Sophomore Mihailo Petrovic and freshman Brandon Lee, who have seen limited playing time due to prior injuries, may receive increased minutes, while regular rotation players are also expected to step up. Freshman Keaton Wagler may take on additional point guard responsibilities, potentially creating more opportunities for Ben Humrichous and Jake Davis off the bench.

Illinois will face a challenging stretch over the next two and a half weeks with several tough Big Ten road games, but the team hopes to maintain its position among conference title contenders. Boswell will remain engaged with the team during his recovery and is expected to return in mid-February.
