DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) — The Danville Fire Department responded to a fully involved residential structure fire late Thursday night in the unit block of Tillman Avenue, resulting in a total loss of the home but no reported injuries.
Fire crews were dispatched at approximately 11:29 p.m. on May 14 to 19 Tillman Avenue after reports of a house fire. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions throughout the single-family residence, with flames extending through the roof.
Due to the severity of the fire and concerns about structural stability, incident command initiated a defensive firefighting strategy, limiting crews to exterior fire suppression operations. Firefighters deployed multiple handlines and aerial master streams to contain the blaze and prevent flames from spreading to neighboring properties.
A nearby residence sustained some damage during the incident.
An excavator was later brought to the scene to assist with demolition operations because of the unsafe condition of the structure. Ameren Illinois crews responded to secure utilities before demolition began.
The fire was brought under control without injuries to firefighters or civilians. Officials reported the structure sustained major fire damage and was considered a total property loss, estimated at approximately $25,000.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined and is under investigation. Officials noted there were no smoke alarms present in the home.
