CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Longtime University of Illinois supporters John and Bonnie Dauer have made a transformative $3 million gift to benefit both Illini Athletics and the University Library system.

The donation includes $2 million for the Library’s Building Transformation Fund, helping renovate learning spaces for future generations, and $1 million to support student-athlete academic services and Illini football capital projects. The Dauers’ contribution earns them a place in the Illini Athletics Investor’s Society, a recognition for leadership-level philanthropic giving.

Director of Athletics Josh Whitman praised the couple’s generosity, calling it a “one-of-a-kind, transformational gift” that supports both the university’s athletic and academic excellence.

The Dauers, who met on campus while working in dining services, said the University of Illinois laid the foundation for their lives. Their hope is that this gift will inspire others to give back to the areas that shaped them. Bonnie, a former catalog librarian, serves on the University Library Board of Advocates. John, a chemistry alum, is now vice president of SCC Inc. in Elk Grove Village.
