ARCOLA, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Earlier in the day, a crash on Interstate 57 south near Arcola backed up traffic for several miles.

With below freezing temperatures and several miles of snow hitting the area on Saturday, a significant crash caused traffic on the interstate to be diverted at the 203 exit, with several vehicles crashed in the backup as a result of driving too fast in the slick conditions.

Illinois State Police advised travelers to avoid the area and slow down earlier in the day, and in the evening provided another update.

At 6:38 p.m., ISP shared that I-57 South was no longer diverted at milepost 203, and that several crshes in the backup were still clearing out, backed up all the way to milepost 214.
