CHICAGO, IL (Chambana Today) — The Illinois Lottery is partnering with the Illinois Council on Problem Gambling as part of Problem Gambling Awareness Month, a nationwide effort each March to increase public understanding of gambling-related harm and connect individuals with support services.

Lottery officials say the campaign will focus on prevention, treatment and recovery resources available across Illinois. This year’s theme — “Don’t Struggle in Silence: Call 1-800-GAMBLER” — is designed to reduce stigma and encourage people to seek help.

“Together with ICPG and our nearly 7,000 retail partners, we are committed to providing our players the information they need to play responsibly,” Illinois Lottery Director Harold Mays said in a statement. He added that lottery games are intended to provide entertainment while generating funding for K-12 public education and special causes throughout the state.

Problem Gambling Awareness Month is led nationally by the National Council on Problem Gambling and brings together public health professionals, advocacy groups and gaming operators to expand awareness and access to care.

Throughout March, the Illinois Lottery will distribute responsible gaming messaging through radio, outdoor advertising, digital and social media outreach, and in-store engagement with players and retailers.

Dave Wohl, executive director of the Illinois Council on Problem Gambling, emphasized that free and confidential support is available 24 hours a day for Illinois residents through the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline, as well as via text and online chat services.

The Illinois Lottery also noted it has achieved Level 4 Responsible Gaming certification — the highest distinction awarded under the World Lottery Association Responsible Gaming Framework — making it one of eight U.S. lotteries to earn the designation.

Additional responsible gaming resources are available on the Illinois Lottery’s website.
