High-traffic portion of Kirby Avenue to be reduced to one lane for construction

CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — On Friday, the Champaign Public Works Department shared that it would shut down a busy portion of Kirby Avenue to make room for construction.

A&R Services will be closing one westbound lane of Kirby between Oak Street and Neil Street while repairing a storm sewer and complete pavement patching. A map of the affected area can be seen below.

The closure will begin on Tuesday, April 7, and will reopen on Monday, April 13, 2026, weather permitting.
