CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill (Chambana Today) — Five food establishments in Champaign County were issued either red or yellow placards following recent health inspections, indicating serious food safety violations that require correction or closure.
German Food Truck (Commissary) @ Po’ Boys in Urbana received a red placard on August 6 and was forced to close due to inadequate refrigeration and insufficient electricity. Inspectors recorded dangerously high food temperatures, including raw meat stored between 47–49°F, far above the safe limit of 41°F. Additionally, the truck’s generator failed multiple times, making it unable to power critical appliances. The facility must prove by August 20 that its refrigeration and power supply can meet demands before reopening.
Accolade Healthcare of Savoy was given a yellow placard after inspectors found 12 food safety violations on August 6 — including five repeat offenses. The nursing home again failed to maintain proper hot food temperatures and saw multiple handwashing violations by staff. Improperly stored cold items and a malfunctioning dishwasher were also cited. A long-term corrective action plan for hand hygiene is due by August 20.
Big JJ Fish & Chicken in Champaign also received a yellow placard on August 5 due to repeated cold-holding violations. Inspectors noted raw fish and tomatoes stored above safe temperatures and found ice buildup blocking air vents in a display refrigerator, which was condemned. This marks the fourth time inspectors noted similar temperature violations. A compliance meeting was set for August 8.
Ten Seconds Rice Noodle, located on Wright Street in Champaign, was cited on August 1 and issued a yellow placard for failing to label prepared foods — a repeat violation. Other concerns included cross-contamination between raw and cooked foods, improper handwashing, and incorrect storage of chemicals. A compliance meeting was scheduled for August 5.
SuSuRu Ramen, also on Green Street in Champaign, was hit with a yellow placard on August 1 after inspectors discovered nine critical violations. These included improper separation of raw and cooked foods, unsafe cold food temperatures, and sanitizer levels more than four times the allowed concentration. The restaurant must submit a violation correction form by August 15. If repeat violations are found during the follow-up inspection, the restaurant will be closed.
