CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The Champaign Fire Department responded to a residential fire Saturday night in the 2100 block of Sumac Drive, arriving on scene at 10:10 p.m. and swiftly putting out the blaze inside a single-family home.

Crews were dispatched after receiving a report of a roof fire at the one-story residence. Upon arrival, firefighters observed light smoke and discovered a small fire in the attic. Using a single hose line, they were able to contain and extinguish the flames quickly.

Investigators determined the fire began near the chimney flue and classified the cause as accidental. No injuries were reported to either occupants or firefighters.

The Champaign Fire Department reminds residents to maintain regular chimney inspections and practice safe heating habits as temperatures continue to drop.
