Fire erupts in Champaign apartment building, one occupant hospitalized

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Fire crews from the Champaign and Urbana Fire Departments responded Monday morning to a residential fire in a 12-unit apartment building on the 2400 block of High View Court.

The call came in at 10:27 a.m., reporting smoke in the three-story building. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a second-floor apartment and quickly deployed multiple hose lines to fight the blaze. As crews worked, a second alarm was issued to assist in containing the fire.

Investigators remain on scene, and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. One occupant was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. No firefighter injuries were reported.
