EAST-CENTRAL, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking nominations for its Farm, Ranch, and Rural Communities Federal Advisory Committee (FRRCC), and local residents involved in farming, ranching, or rural industries are encouraged to apply. The committee provides independent advice to the EPA Administrator on environmental policies affecting agriculture and rural communities across the country.

Established in 2008, the FRRCC gives stakeholders a voice in shaping programs and policies that directly impact farmers, ranchers, and rural residents, including those in Champaign and Piatt counties. The committee addresses topics identified by the Administrator and provides recommendations to guide EPA decision-making.

“American farmers, ranchers, and rural communities value the importance of keeping our land, air, and water safe and healthy,” said Turner Bridgforth, Senior Agriculture Advisor to the Administrator. “The FRRCC gives agricultural stakeholders a valuable seat at the table to provide meaningful feedback to EPA. Feeding, clothing, and fueling the world requires a strong partnership between EPA and America’s farmers and ranchers.”

The EPA is looking for members who represent a diverse mix of perspectives, including:

  • Farming, ranching, and rural community members in Illinois
  • Allied industries such as farm groups, rural suppliers, marketers, and processors
  • Academia and research institutions
  • State, local, and tribal governments
  • Nongovernmental organizations

Applications are due by March 2, and candidates can apply by emailing FRRCC@epa.gov. Additional details about the FRRCC and the application process are available at epa.gov/faca/frrcc.
