URBANA, Ill. (Chambana Today) — With hunger in America at its highest level in more than a decade, Eastern Illinois Foodbank (EIF) is calling on the community to come together during Hunger Action Month to take meaningful steps toward ending hunger in east-central Illinois and beyond.

Organized by Feeding America, Hunger Action Month enters its 18th year as a national call to action. This year, the message is urgent: more than 47 million Americans, including 14 million children, are experiencing food insecurity.

“Eastern Illinois Foodbank is not immune to the rising costs and limited resources impacting the neighbors we serve,” said Kelly Daly, EIF President & CEO. “This Hunger Action Month, we want everyone to know that no action is too small to make a difference as we meet a historic need.”

Locally, food insecurity ranges from 9.9% in Piatt County to 16.5% in Coles County, with demand continuing to rise as cuts to SNAP and Medicaid deepen the crisis.
