CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, IL (Chambana Today) — One person was killed Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash southwest of Homer, according to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred just after noon on County Road 2500E between County Roads 700N and 800N. Sheriff’s officials said a vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree for reasons that remain under investigation. The vehicle then caught fire.

A passerby pulled the driver, believed to be the sole occupant of the vehicle, from the car before emergency responders arrived. Life-saving measures were performed by the passerby and EMS, but the driver later died from their injuries.

Authorities have not released the identity or age of the driver.

County Road 2500E remained closed Monday afternoon as sheriff’s deputies continued to investigate the crash.
