CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — The 16th Annual Disability Resource Expo: Reaching Out for Answers is set for Saturday, October 18th, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Market Place Mall, 2000 N. Neil Street, Champaign, IL. This free event serves as an invaluable resource for people with disabilities and their families in East Central Illinois.

To further enhance the event’s accessibility, Disability Resources and Education Services (DRES) at the University of Illinois will provide a shuttle service to help attendees reach the venue safely and easily. The shuttle will run from the intersection of Neil and Center to the JCPenney entrance of Market Place Mall from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with frequent pickups every half-hour.

This initiative addresses the challenges some individuals face with public transportation, ensuring that everyone can attend without worry. “We are deeply grateful to DRES for stepping up to provide this crucial shuttle service,” said Allison Boot, Co-Coordinator of the Expo. “Ensuring safe access to these important resources is our top priority.”

In addition to the shuttle service, the Expo will feature over 60 exhibitors, offering resources on education, legal support, and more. To further accommodate attendees, the Expo will provide wheelchair and walker rentals, accessible parking, ASL and Spanish interpreters, and Personal Care Assistance.

“We’re committed to removing any barriers that might prevent attendance,” Boot added. “Our goal is to create a fully accessible environment, and we’ll have a traffic officer on-site to help ensure safe crossings for those who need more time.”
