Domestic-related shooting in Urbana leads to two arrests

URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) — Police responded to the 1200 block of Ellis Drive on May 3, at approximately 11:00 a.m. following reports of a domestic-related incident involving a firearm.

According to authorities, the victim reported that her ex-boyfriend, identified as 34-year-old Wesley L. King of Champaign, discharged a firearm in her direction as she was backing her vehicle out of a driveway. The incident occurred outside the residence, and fortunately, no injuries or property damage were reported.

Witnesses provided a description of the suspect vehicle, which had fled the scene with another individual driving. Officers located the vehicle near the intersection of Romine and Park and conducted a high-risk traffic stop, safely detaining both occupants. The driver was identified as 34-year-old Mannix Martin of Urbana.

King was arrested on preliminary charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Martin was arrested on a preliminary charge of possession of a controlled substance.

The Urbana Police Department thanked members of the public for promptly reporting the shots, which aided in the quick resolution of the incident. Authorities reminded the community that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
