Danville Police issues urgent public safety alert for two men attempting motor vehicle theft

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — On Thursday, the Danville Police Department issued an urgent public safety alert on two individuals actively attempting to commit motor vehicle thefts on Kia and Hyundai vehicles, model years 2010-2022.

The PD share that the suspects are armed, have fired a firearm towards victims who attempted to intervene, and should be considered extremely dangerous. It is also advised that you should not approach or attempt to confront these individuals. If you observe suspicious activity or an attempted vehicle theft, you should move to a safe location, call 911, and provide as much information as possible (location, direction of travel, descriptions).

Danville Police also provided safety tips for vehicle owners:

  • Lock your vehicle at all times.
  • Remove keys and valuables.
  • Use additional anti-theft devices when available.
  • Park in well-lit or secure areas.
  • Stay alert and report suspicious behavior promptly.
