DANVILLE, Ill. (Chambana Today) — A Danville man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that injured a 33-year-old man on the city’s east side last week.

Willie J. Danner, 31, was taken into custody around 12:40 p.m. on September 29 after voluntarily meeting with detectives at the Danville Public Safety Building. Danner was booked into the Vermilion County Jail on an outstanding warrant for aggravated battery with a firearm.

The charges stem from an incident on September 25, when Danville Police responded to the 400 block of Beard Street around 4:45 a.m. for a report of a gunshot victim. Officers found a 33-year-old male with a gunshot wound. The victim was later transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police determined the shooting took place in the 500 block of Harvey Street. A court-ordered search warrant was obtained, and the Danville Police Emergency Response Unit executed the warrant at a nearby residence later that day.

Authorities continue to investigate the case. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Danville Police Department at (217) 431-2250 or reach out anonymously to Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at (217) 446-TIPS or online at vccrimestoppers.org.
