Contract worker electrocuted at Clinton Power Plant; investigation underway

CLINTON, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Local and federal authorities are investigating after a Decatur man was electrocuted Friday at the Constellation Energy Clinton Power Plant.

DeWitt County Coroner Randy Rice said 29-year-old Samuel Ward was pronounced dead at the plant at 2:45 p.m. on Nov. 14. An autopsy will be scheduled, Rice said.

According to the plant, officials also declared an ‘Unusual Event’ on Friday after a temporary loss of offsite power. This is the lowest of the four emergency classifications set by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

The DeWitt County Coroner’s Office and the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate.
