CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Two food establishments in Champaign County were shut down and another was warned after failing recent health inspections.

Hotel Royer in Urbana received a red placard and had its kitchen shut down on October 9 after inspectors found repeated violations, including raw shrimp, chicken, and deli meats stored above safe temperatures and expired food labels. The hotel had already been warned during a previous inspection.

Hot Wok Express, also in Urbana, was closed on October 15 due to severe violations, including moldy tomatoes, improper food storage, and a facility infested with cockroaches. Inspectors reported “countless” dead roaches in multiple kitchen areas and cross-contamination risks between raw and cooked foods.

Brothers Bar & Grill in Champaign avoided closure but was issued a yellow placard for repeated issues with food not being kept cold enough, mold in the ice machine, and pests including cockroaches and flies.

All three businesses must pass follow-up inspections before resuming normal operations.
