CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Authorities in Champaign say they have identified the owner of a vehicle recovered from a local lake, and investigators believe the individual was not involved in how the car ended up submerged.

According to Champaign Police Deputy Chief Manzana, the owner was located and confirmed not to have been in possession of the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Police say the circumstances remain unclear, including how the vehicle entered the water and how a window was broken.
