CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Champaign firefighters rescued nine people from a fast-moving fire that broke out Sunday afternoon in a 12-unit apartment building on the 2400 block of High View Court.

Fire crews were dispatched at 4:08 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of a fire in the three-story complex. Heavy smoke was visible as units responded, prompting an upgrade to a second alarm. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered flames pouring from balconies on the second and third floors.

Crews quickly deployed multiple hose lines and located eight people trapped on balconies. All were rescued using ladders. A ninth occupant and a dog were rescued from inside an apartment. One person was treated on scene and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. No firefighter injuries were reported.
