CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Champaign Fire Department Deputy Chief Josh Jessup has been selected to participate in the 2026 Fire Service Executive Development Institute, a nationally recognized leadership program offered by the International Association of Fire Chiefs.

Jessup was chosen from a competitive pool of applicants from across the United States and Canada to join the 2026 group. The year-long program is designed to prepare new and aspiring fire chiefs for effective leadership roles within their departments and communities.

Jessup began his career with the Champaign Fire Department in 2005 and has advanced through the ranks of firefighter, engineer, lieutenant and captain. He was appointed deputy fire chief in February 2024 after nearly two decades of service.

The Fire Service Executive Development Institute will convene four times throughout the year, beginning Feb. 16–20. The program is supported by a grant from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, marking the 14th year of the foundation’s partnership with the IAFC.

Champaign Fire Chief Tyler Funk praised Jessup’s selection, citing his long-standing commitment to leadership and professional growth. Funk said Jessup has consistently demonstrated strong strategic thinking and dedication to the department and the community it serves.

The IAFC program is considered one of the premier leadership development opportunities in the fire service. Graduates of previous cohorts have gone on to serve as fire chiefs and leaders in fire service organizations nationwide.
