The famed Deluxe Fish Sandwich returns to CU


In a post on the excellent Champaign Urbana History Facebook group (a must join for townies) the news was released that the locally revered Deluxe Fish Sandwich will return to CU tables.

 

Dublin’s Pub at 301 S. Neil st. in Champaign will feature the original recipe fish sandwich from February 14th-17th from 11am to 1:30 or while supplies last. After that the sandwich will be available from 11am until they run out on Fridays and Saturdays.

 

The Deluxe was located where Legends is currently on Green st. in Campustown. The fish sandwich was made famous by generations of locals and Illinois alums.

 

The owner of the family recipe, Stephen Flynn, will oversee the production of the batter and sandwich. The sandwich will be presented in it’s original form, on white bread or with a hamburger bun.

Locally famed DeLuxe Fried Fish Sandwich lands Downtown at Dublin’s on Neil St.

 

Dublin’s at 301 N Neil in Downtown, Champaign is proud to announce beginning February 14 through Easter, the famous DeLuxe Fried Fish Sandwich will once again be available to Champaign-Urbana. This will be the first time in 22 years C-U residents and visitors can enjoy one of the best remembered dishes in local history.

 

Dublin’s kitchen manager, Raul Parada, and General Manager, Scott McIntosh, have collaborated with Stephen Flynn, son of the original DeLuxe owner to offer the famed recipe. Stephen has provided his family’s batter recipe and fish source. Stephen will personally oversee the recipes production.

Dublin’s will serve the renowned sandwich as it was originally prepared with either white bread or on a hamburger bun, including options to add mustard, pickles and onions.

 

The sandwich will be available from 11am to 1:30 am, while supplies last February 14-17. The following weeks thru Easter it will be available on Fridays and Saturdays starting at 11am until sold out.

 

The sandwich uses premium deep water Cod coated with a secret batter recipe that DeLuxe Billiards owners created just as prohibition was ending.

 

The sandwich can be enjoyed at Dublin’s pub or will be available for carry out. Advance carry out orders can be placed beginning February 12 by calling Dublin’s during business hours at 1 217 531 1152. Lunch service of the DeLuxe Fried Fish Sandwich at Dublin’s will begin at 11 am Wednesday, February 14.
