UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Fatal Downtown Shooting

UPDATE 8:52: Champaign Police have arrested David D. Denson, 28, of Champaign on first degree Murder charges in the fatal shooting of Terry Moore Jr., 30, of Champaign.

Denson is being held on $1.5 Million bond. He was booked into the Champaign County Jail at 6:45pm this evening.

Police located Denson and arrested him in the 1000 block of Smith Road in Urbana. He was arrested without a struggle.

Denson is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday.

UPDATE: The Champaign Police Department released the following statement.

On August 20, 2017 at approximately 3:59 AM, Champaign Police responded to a public parking lot in the 300 Block of N. Walnut St., after receiving multiple reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, police found a 30-year-old male victim suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.  Officers on scene provided medical aid, and the victim was transported to Carle Hospital, but died a short time later.

 

Champaign Police Detectives are investigating this incident. Information concerning this incident is being developed and police are interviewing potential witnesses.  Anyone who has information regarding the shooting is urged to contact the Champaign Police Investigations Division at 217-351-4545.

Original Story: An early morning shooting in Downtown Champaign has left one dead.

According to a report in the News-Gazette, Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup has confirmed that one person died in the shooting.

The parking lot to the north of the News-Gazette building, at Walnut and Washington streets, is where the shooting took place some time around 4:00am.

The public parking lot remains closed this morning as police continue to investigate.
