There’s a ton in the restaurant rumor mill this week. Lets get to it.

  • First off, Black Dog caused quite a stir with one tweet this week. They seemed to hint at the possibility of a Black Dog food truck in 2018. This would certainly make me very happy.
  • The first of a couple of notes from Tom Kacich’s excellent mailbag, is that after years of pining by the citizens of C-U and surrounding areas, a local Golden Corral location looks to be a reality:

“Golden Corral has selected a location for a restaurant in Champaign but not at the old Ryan’s site, said real estate broker Jay Sikorski at Coldwell Banker Commercial Devonshire Realty. But he said he can’t say where Golden Corral will be. They’re hoping to announce their location by the end of the year.”

  • Also from Tom’s Mailbag, the Buffalo Wild Wings in Savoy has reopened after a brief construction project. There was a building permit filed for $190,000 worth of work done to the building.
  • As reported by the News-Gazette and Smile Politely, Pekara Bakery and Bistro will move into a building at Springfield and Prospect avenues in Champaign. The Building which formerly housed a Phillips 66 gas station and Colonial Pantry will be transformed into a second location for the bakery/cafe. Smile Politely talked with Pekara GM Alli Nisley about what will be new about the new location:

We’re going to have a lot of things we have at the bistro, in addition to flattops and fryers, and new ovens, and all that fun stuff. We’re going to work on a separate brunch menu, we’re still working on the details of that menu as we speak. Things will be similar, we’ll still do coffee and tea, so the bistro, only bigger. The floorplan is very open, there will be tons of seating — window seats, tables, big family tables, etc.

There is no time table for the opening of Pekara’s Second location yet. Pekara’s current location at 116 N. Neil St. will remain open.
