Police: Attempted Child Abduction in Champaign

Cha mpaign Police are on the lookout for a suspect in an attempted child abduction Tuesday morning.

A male juvenile was walking to his bus stop in the 1200 block of West Harrington Drive, near Morrissey Park in Southwest Champaign around 7:09 am, when he was approached by a man in a red colored four-door pickup truck.

The suspect, a white male in his 40’s, with white facial hair, implied to the victim that he had a gun and demanded that he get into the vehicle.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a red four door Dodge pickup truck. CPD officers canvassed the area after the report. An increased police presence was also made available to schools around morning and evening pickup and drop-off times.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the attempted abduction, or anyone with information, are encouraged to call the Champaign Police Department at 217-351-4545
