OSF Reaches Deal with Blue Cross Blue Shield


After a short period of uncertainty, OSF Healthcare and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois have reached an agreement to stay in the insurers network of hospitals.

The multi-year agreement is retroactive to February 1st when OSF took over operations of Heart of Mary Medical Center in Urbana, and Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville from Presence Health.

Any patient who received care between February 1st and today at either of the hospitals will have in-network care reflected in their accounts.

(Peoria, IL – February 16, 2018) – OSF HealthCare has reached a multi-year agreement with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) to ensure patients who choose to receive care at its Urbana and Danville hospitals have access to extensive high quality, in-network, medical care and services.

The agreement is effective immediately and retroactive to February 1. Patients with BCBSIL insurance who received care at either OSF HealthCare Heart of Mary Medical Center or OSF HealthCare Sacred Heart Medical Center since February 1 will have their account reflect these hospitals’ in-network participation status.

“We are pleased to have finalized a continuation of OSF HealthCare’s relationship with BCBSIL that ensures patients and families in the Urbana and Danville areas have in-network access to the treatments and services they need,” said Jared C. Rogers, M.D., president of OSF HealthCare Heart of Mary and OSF HealthCare Sacred Heart Medical Centers. “We realize this situation caused significant concern for our patients and families, and appreciate the support and patience of local businesses and community leaders.”

OSF HealthCare is still in discussions with HealthLink and remains hopeful of reaching an agreement on a new contract.

OSF HealthCare has completed agreements with more than 30 insurance products with payers covering employer, individual, Medicare Advantage, and Managed Medicaid plans. These payers include Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Health Alliance, Aetna, Coventry, United Healthcare, Cigna, Humana, Meridian, Molina and VA Choice. A complete listing can be found online.
