Original post:

It wouldn’t be the 4th of July in CU without a heat wave. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for July 4th for our listening area.

Here’s the release from the NWS:

…HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 7 PM CDT WEDNESDAY…

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a Heat
Advisory, which is in effect from noon to 7 PM CDT Wednesday.

* TEMPERATURE…Highs temperatures will be in the lower 90s on Wednesday, with peak afternoon heat indices near 105 degrees.

* IMPACTS…There will be an increased risk of heat stress and
heat illness for everyone, but especially among vulnerable
populations, such as the very young, the elderly, people without access to air conditioning and those spending significant time outdoors. Pets are also susceptible to heat illness.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing, drink plenty of water, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9 1 1.
