The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a Heat Advisory, which is in effect until 7 PM CDT Tuesday.
The advisory is in effect for our entire listening area, and due to the forecasted heat some area schools will be dismissing early. Click here for that list.
High temperatures will be in the lower 90s today and Tuesday.
* HEAT INDEX VALUES…Heat indices will peak between 100 and 110 degrees this afternoon and Tuesday afternoon.
* IMPACTS…The heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure. The very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and those participating in strenuous outdoor activities will be the most susceptible. Also, car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of water, wear light-weight loose-fitting clothing, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9-1-1.
