For the first time since the $183 Million school referendum was passed, there is a detailed view of what renovations to both Central and Centennial High Schools will look like.
Designs were revealed Tuesday night at the school board meeting by Perkins+Will and IGW Architects.
The full plan, is not a final design. The school board will approve the designs in January of 2018. The design phase will continue through that June.
Central High School will get the most extensive renovation, with a new gymnasium and athletic training space, new spaces for the band, choir, and theatre programs, including a new performance space, and a new atrium between the existing building and new addition.
Not included in the design, are plans for athletic fields planned for properties on the north side of Church street. Local preservationists are lobbying to save houses slated for demolition to make way for those fields.
Centennial will also receive a new gym, administration space, classroom addition, and new space for band, drama, and art classes. Also included is a dedicated locker room for Central Football to use when they play their games at Tommy Stewart Field.
The renovation is expected to be completed in 5 years.
