Campustown Shooting Suspect ID’ed, Surveillance Video Released


The man who is suspected of killing a bystander in a shooting in Campustown early sunday morning has been identified and a warrant has been issued for his arrest on first degree murder charges.

Police are looking for 18 year old Robbie M. Patton who listed an address in the 500 block of East Washington street in Champaign.

Champaign County State’s Attorney Julia Rietz said that the shooting stemmed from an argument that began over a spilled drink at a party inside a Green St. apartment.

The argument spilled outside and when a friend of the suspect was attacked by other party-goers. Patton allegedly got agitated by the fight and chased after those who attacked the man. He’s alleged to have fired a gun in their direction, striking and killing 22 year-old George Korchev, of Mundelein who was a bystander.
