So it appears that Savoy and southwest Champaign residents will have another grocery store option in 2017.
ChambanaMoms.com has learned that Aldi will be opening their 3rd Champaign-Urbana area location in Savoy sometime in 2017:
“We’re planning to open a Savoy, Illinois, store in late 2017, but we are still finalizing the details. At this time, we don’t have any updates to share, but we will follow up with additional information once available,” said ALDI Dwight Division Vice President Heather Moore in an email.
The location of the store will be off of Route 45 in what is known as the Savoy Square area.
Today Savoy Zoning administrator Dan Davies told The News-Gazette’s Tom Kacich:
“There is an Aldi’s coming. It’s about the best unkept secret in Savoy,” said Davies.
The store will be built along U.S. 45, south of the Savoy Municipal Center, and north of the Christie Clinic office.
The project is still in the design phase, but it will include other businesses and should start construction “in early spring,” he said.
This is welcome and exciting news for bargain shoppers, and Aldi lovers alike. The store will join other Aldi locations on Prospect Ave. in Champaign, and University Ave. in Urbana.
