CU Food News: Golden Corral picks a spot in Champaign

The one food place that Champaign has been clamoring for is finally coming to fruition.

Golden Corral has applied for a permit, first reported by Tom Kasich, for a 10,000+ square foot building listed at 1202 W. Anthony Drive, which appears to be the grassy lot next to the Woodspring Suites just off of I-74.

The permit has not been issued and is being reviewed by the city. There is no timetable for the restaurant’s opening.

This site is just west of the site of Ryan’s Buffet, which closed in March of last year. It was the last American buffet style restaurant in the area. Old Country Buffet closed in 2015, and has been replaced by Portillo’s.
