Miley Cyrus’ fans have turned on Sinead O’Connor after the pop star took aim at the Irish singer on U.S. TV for criticizing her “Wrecking Ball” video in an open letter posted online.

O’Connor sparked a Twitter feud with the 20 year old last week after Cyrus revealed her new promo was inspired by the singer’s Nothing Compared 2 U video.

The outspoken Irish star didn’t like the link and lashed out at Miley, urging her to stop “prostituting” herself and beware predators in the music industry and those out to exploit the former child star, who stripped off in the “Wrecking Ball” video.

Cyrus responded to the open letter by poking fun at O’Connor’s past mental health issues, likening her to troubled actress Amanda Bynes, who is currently seeking treatment following an apparent breakdown.

The upset 46 year old then threatened legal action against the young star and dismissed a suggestion she should meet with Cyrus, so they could end their feud.

Cyrus was asked about her Twitter trouble with O’Connor during an appearance on the Today Show on Monday, and told host Matt Lauer she still couldn’t understand why someone would take a comment she meant as a compliment and turn it into the basis for an online attack on her character and career choices.

And now O’Connor has revealed she has received hurtful tweets and threatening comments from Cyrus’ fans.

In a fourth open letter addressed to the pop star, she writes, “As a result of what you did, I have had numerous communications from people urging me to commit suicide. Not to mention, I have been the subject of literally thousands of abusive articles and or comments left after articles, which state that I and therefore all perceived mentally ill people, should be bullied and be invalidated.

“Luckily I am a strong person. And I have four children whose lives would be destroyed if I were to buckle under the abuse you set me up for. If I were not, and/or I did not have four children, these types of communications and these types of articles and remarks could have had their desired effect.

“I might add my children have been extremely upset by the nature of media attitudes toward their mother on the grounds their mother is (falsely) believed to be mentally ill.”

She went on to share a number of statistics relating to suicide and depression, and reiterated her demand for Cyrus to apologize for mocking her, imploring the pop star to “please do the right thing”, adding, “You will actually save lives by doing so. There are people who will NOT die tonight, if you are brave enough to state that there is nothing whatsoever wrong with any person seeking publicly or privately, help, in order to stay alive.”
