Dear Kevin and Sarah,
I went out drinking with my co-worker last Friday and now I’m at a total loss on how to proceed. We both have essentially the same job with identical responsibilities. But after a few hours of girl talk and NUMEROUS drinks, she casually mentioned her salary and how it was review time for us again next month. I was stunned because this girl, who I know doesn’t work one bit harder than me, is making $15,000 more a year! I didn’t even acknowledge her at the time and girl talk took the conversation elsewhere.
I thought about it all weekend and am convinced we have equal responsibilities and are both salaried workers (no bonuses or commissions). I’ve decided I need to address this with my boss when we talk salary next month. I know this may sound catty, but really the only difference is she is gorgeous and all of the guys love her. Should I let him know I know about the differnce in salary or will this make me look like a crazy jealous chick or problem employee? I really like my job, but knowing this is eating away at me.
