Thanks to everyone who stopped by the Mix tent last Saturday to say hello! The crowd was HUGE at the Urbana Market at the Square, as always. Mix gave away gift certificates and helped get everyone excited about Sprouts at the Market – this month’s featured educators were from The Great Pumpkin Patch in Arthur.
This is Mac. After the Market, he took off for Santa Rosa, CA for the National Heirloom Expo where he completed construction on the largest pumpkin tower he has ever built. This one at their Market tent was NOT the largest, but it was cute:
It was a busy day at the Market at the Square, and despite the crowds people really came out in force. Maybe it was for the HONEYCRISP APPLES. Maybe it was to get local beef, pork, chicken, goat and lamb for their tailgate! Or maybe it was for fun, kitchy arts and crafts made by local vendors. Check out the super cute wallet I got!
I picked it up from Jennifer at In My Vast Spare Time. FIVE BUCKS! Love it. You can find out where Jennifer (or any vendor) will be located on Saturday by using the Market Map function on your weekly Market Mail.
After an amazing sandwich from the Cracked Truck (OMG), I did some shopping before the Mix broadcast – when it was much cooler and MUCH less crowded. This week my purchases included:
- melon (yes, the Market has great melons)
- kettle korn (alas, a small bag)
- green and red peppers (for fajitas!)
- butternut squash (great fries, kinda like sweet potato fries)
- honeycrisp apples (1/2 peck)
- super cute wallet above
Check out these melons:
This Saturday it’s supposed to only crack 70!!! Wow! Join me at the hustling, bustling Market this and every Saturday til November from 7-noon, rain or shine. It’s on the corner of Illinois and Vine in historic downtown Urbana. Find the Market at the Square on Facebook or Twitter to stay connected!
