Seasons change…
Seasons change…

Well, tomorrow is the final Market at the Square, on the corner of Illinois and Vine in Urbana from 7-noon. The weather is actually going to be pretty terrific for November 2nd – clouds making way for sunshine and a high of 51. I’d have to think that my Market friends would agree that, with rare exception, it’s been a wonderful summer of Saturdays! :)

If you’ve never been to the final Market of the season, you probably assume that it’ll be a small crowd of vendors with not much produce available. Wrong! In my Market Mail that arrived yesterday (every Thursday), I read that this Saturday will feature green beans, radish, fennel, onions, scallions, turnips, leeks, collards, kale, spinach, salad mix, eggplant, apples, hot and sweet peppers, cabbage, okra, potatoes, squash, carrots, watermelon, pumpkins, sweet corn, swiss chard and tomatoes. And that’s just the produce!!

There will be plenty of artists on hand with blown glass, soap, candles, leather goods, knitted items, painted silk, and handcrafted woodwork – talk about great Christmas gifts! You can also grab some of the new Market merchandise, including a variety of new Market at the Square t-shirts in assorted colors and sizes (for men, women and children) - $10 for adults and $8 for kids.

Many vendors sell meats and artisan cheeses for the holidays or winter months – check with them about ordering now!

While the outdoor Market element is wrapping up for the season, don’t be blue – because the HOLIDAY MARKET begins next Saturday!! For seven weeks, head inside Lincoln Square and from 8-1p shop for produce, baked goods, crafts, and holiday decorations all produced, grown, or made in Illinois.

SIgn up for Holiday Market Mail HERE.  The Urbana Business Association’s website, Facebook and Twitter will keep you informed about event updates and surprises, too.

And remember that while the Market wraps up Saturday, there are still many restaurants in our area who feature food from area farms – please support their efforts! As my friends at the Market say -

SHOP LOCAL AND EAT LOCAL!!
