I can’t say I’ve ever seen a pig eating a hamburger…but perhaps if he had one made from the antibiotic- and hormone-free grassfed meat sold at the Urbana Market at the Square, he’d enjoy every bite.
Don’t miss the Lunchtime Leadoff today, when I’ll be giving away a Grilling “Pig Out” package from the Moore Family Farms. It’s your choice of a package of pork brats or Italian sausage links, PLUS a package of pork burgers. I’ve talked about the Moores before – they’re one of my very favorite vendors at the Market. Jim, Diann, and Wes are from Watseka, and have been at Market for 25 years! They have a wonderful selection of products, and are always kind and helpful. Like many of the vendors I’ve met, they seem a little shy and modest. But they are passionate advocates for (as their site says), “farming on a small scale with practices that are animal-, people-, and environmentally-friendly, so that they can produce natural, healthy, safe, and great-tasting food for generations to come.” BRAVO to them, and their delicious meat and eggs.
Also tomorrow: BUY ONE DONATE ONE with the Eastern Illinois Foodbank. What a great idea – purchase fresh, local, and healthy items for yourself AND donate some as well. The Foodbank will have a tent located near the City of Urbana tent all morning tomorrow.
It’ll be another big day at the Market, where the aisles are now full of vendors, producers, and food trucks. We should have fantastic weather!! My advice is to arrive early, because the best stuff will go quickly! Don’t miss the peaches and berries. Take home a gorgeous hanging basket or a handmade wood carved decoration for somebody special!
The Market is on the corner of Illinois and Vine Streets in Historic Downtown Urbana, every Saturday from 7-noon.
