Why so sad, Pumpkin-on-the-Right? Is it because no one will take you to the Urbana Market at the Square this Saturday? OF COURSE you don’t want to miss out on one of the most fun Saturdays of the summer – when Sprouts at the Market features our friends from the Great Pumpkin Patch in Arthur!! From 9-11:30 this Saturday, kids will enjoy a ton of great activities; read this about “From Dirt to Dessert…and Beyond” from the weekly Market Mail:
This event will feature guest educators from The Great Pumpkin Patch in Arthur, Illinois. They’ll come to Sprouts ready to teach kiddos about cucurbits: squashes, pumpkins, and gourds. Participants will learn about pumpkin seeds, Illinois soil (which is the richest in the world!), the A to Z of squash, and even sample pumpkin cookies made with pumpkins grown at The Great Pumpkin Patch. Caregivers will receive nutritional information and squash preparation techniques sure to please the whole family. Small prizes including 1-day passes to The Great Pumpkin Patch will be offered to children who complete the activities at all stations throughout the Market.
This Saturday is also the final blood drive of the season with Community Blood Services of Illinois. The Bloodmobile will be parked in the, open for donations from 9-12. The goal is 12 units – they surpassed their August goals, so please do your part to help in September.
Of course I am SUPER excited that Mix will be broadcasting live at the Market from 8-10am. We’ll have tons of giveaways (Market gift certificates for some of the most amazing vendors), the Mix prize wheel, AND the chance to register to win a new iPad (as part of our Schoolapalooza tour). Fun! Forgive me if I’m eating under the Mix tent – I cannot stay away from those food trucks…
Last week I bought so many things: pineapple bread from the Muffin Man, fabulous melon, eggplant, apples, purple peppers, zucchini, kettle korn, nectarines, corn, kale, and a very cute ceiling fan pendant (I guess that’s what you call them?). On that note, you’ll see this Saturday that the arts and crafts are starting to take on a Fall flair, as we head into September. Grab some autumn home decor, fall scented soaps and candles, and colder weather clothing like long skirts, infinity scarves, and up-cycled jackets. Upcycling is the art of making something old into something new, by the way…and yes, I had to look it up. See, you learn something new EVERY SATURDAY at the Urbana Market at the Square. It’s 7-noon rain or shine on the corner of Illinois and Vine. See you there this Saturday from 8-10…please stop by the Mix tent and say hello!
